Road Tripping

Skylar once left a perfectly respectable life to live in a trailer the size of a Twinkie. She did not own a wrench, a sense of direction, or any footwear appropriate for mud. She did, however, possess a powerful combination of burnout, curiosity, and a Costco-sized bag of almonds.

Over the course of two years, she worked from sporadic Wi-Fi, and drove across the country fueled by caffeine, emotional breakthroughs, and the occasional power outage. Her hobbies include Googling “Is that noise normal?”, pretending to understand electrical diagrams, and screaming “I’M FINE” into the wind.

She has not mastered wilderness survival, but she can:

  • Park backwards while swearing poetically
  • Fix a leaky roof with a pool noodle and a lot of hope
  • Hold a philosophical conversation with a lizard named Carl

She is a writer, an artist, a woman of immense grit, with a crunchy cookie enthusiast. These chapters and this book is her love letter to the open road, the messy middle, and anyone who’s ever asked, “What if I just left?”

She did. She survived. And she brought back cheesy novelty keychains purchased from roadside gift shops across the country and possibly useful meaning-of-life-insights.
